Desicion support system
for Leakage Control
-
A database serves as the repository of all
project-related data, concerning the characteristics of the detected
leakages.
-
A data manager makes database information
transparently available to other modules, providing also the capability of
'what if' scenarios.
-
A GIS module holds spatial data and provides
visual evaluation functionalities.
-
An expert system will function as a
coordinator among the modules and as a user-friendly interface.
-
The heart of the system is the 'state of
leakage' module, which estimates probabilistically the evolution of
leakage with time from pipe cracks, corrosion holes and open joints. Thus
it determines whether the pipeline must be re-inspected or rehabilitated
to maintain structural safety or to prevent great water loss.
-
A rehabilitation module selects the feasible
technical solution for each problem with the minimum cost, helping a
prioritisation module assess the importance of rehabilitation projects.
